Doorzign is based on a deliberately lean and reliable technical architecture. All components are designed for low maintenance, long service life and stable operation – ideal for offices, educational institutions and public buildings.
A Doorzign system consists of three central components:
Doorzign e-paper displays on the door
A gateway for wireless updates
The Doorzign server for central control
This architecture ensures a clear separation of display, transmission and management.
The Doorzign displays are the visible component of the system located directly on the door.
They use e-paper displays from the manufacturer Qbic, which are specially designed for long-term, low-maintenance use in buildings.
Doorzign supports two display sizes, which can be used depending on the door, room type and information requirements:

All Doorzign gateways and displays are managed centrally via the Doorzign server.
Management of all displays and gateways
Distribution of content and updates
Monitoring of:
Battery level
Reception strength
Connection status
Automatic calendar synchronisation (iCal connect)
Doorzign displays are completely battery-powered and do not require a power connection.
Batterietyp: CR2450 Lithium-Knopfzellen
EP 400: 4 × CR2450
EP 700: 6 × CR2450
The typical battery life is up to three years, even with multiple updates per day.
The battery level of each individual display is recorded regularly and shown in the Doorzign web front end. This allows battery replacements to be planned in advance without having to check individual doors manually.
No. The displays themselves do not have a direct internet connection; the gateway requires an internet connection to the Doorzign server.
All communication between the gateway and display takes place:
Wireless via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)
Exclusively via a Doorzign gateway
Controlled and monitored by the Doorzign server
This reduces complexity and vulnerabilities.
Wireless installation directly on the door or wall
No power or network cabling required
Fixed installation location after mounting
Very low maintenance thanks to long battery life
The Doorzign gateways transmit content and updates wirelessly via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to the e-paper displays. BLE is particularly energy-efficient and ideal for battery-powered devices.
The typical range is approx. 20–25 metres with a clear line of sight. Walls, doors and structural conditions can affect the range.
In larger or winding buildings, coverage may be affected by:
additional antennas
or the use of multiple gateways
be flexibly expanded.
A gateway can technically control up to 50 displays. For stable and high-performance operation, a maximum of 20 displays per gateway is recommended in practice.
This recommendation ensures that:
Updates are carried out quickly
The radio connection remains stable
Sufficient reserves are available for future expansions
