With iCal Connect, your Doorzign display shows the events of a calendar automatically. All you need is the iCal URL of your calendar on Button 1 – Doorzign then updates the display every 5 minutes.
The display has an active DoorZign iCal Connect licence. The basic licence is not enough – it only unlocks the text and image templates.
You have an iCal URL (ICS link) of your calendar that can be accessed without signing in. Links containing a secret token are fine; logins or password protection are not supported.
Without a matching licence, the “iCal Connect” tile is locked. Clicking it opens the page where you can purchase the licence. Doorzign also lets you know when the licence has expired.
iCal Connect works with any calendar that provides a standard iCal feed (.ics):
Microsoft 365 / Exchange: Publish the calendar in Outlook on the web and copy the ICS link – step by step in Create iCal feed - Microsoft.
Google Calendar: In the calendar settings you will find the “Secret address in iCal format”. It should work right away.
Apple iCloud: Share the calendar as a public calendar and copy the link. You can enter links starting with webcal:// directly – Doorzign converts them to https:// automatically.
Open the display and switch to the Button 1 tab.
Choose the iCal Connect tile. If a template is already set on the button, click Choose template first.
Enter the full URL of your calendar in iCal URL (required).
Optional: Enter a Calendar name. It is shown as the room name on the display. If you leave it empty during setup, Doorzign uses the server name from the URL; for later changes the previous name is kept.
Optional: Choose a Timezone. If empty, your account setting or the default is used.
Click Set up connection. Doorzign fetches the calendar once and checks it. If everything is fine, a confirmation message tells you that the calendar has been connected.
iCal Connect is only available on Button 1.
Doorzign fetches your calendar every 5 minutes. Right after setup the display may still be empty – the first events appear after about 5 minutes at the latest.
The display shows today’s events that have not ended yet, sorted by start time. How many fit depends on the layout.
While an event is running, the room is shown as occupied.
The event subject is used as the title. Recurring events including exceptions are supported, cancelled events are hidden and all-day events are recognised.
If you only shared “Can view when I’m busy” in Microsoft 365, the feed contains no subject. The display then shows “Busy”.
Changes in your calendar reach the display automatically with the next fetch.
The iCal URL cannot be reached – the address is wrong or the server does not respond.
The iCal URL responds with an error code – the calendar requires a login or publishing has been revoked.
There is no iCal calendar at this URL – you probably copied the HTML link (browser view) instead of the ICS link.
To check, open the URL in a private browser window: it must load an .ics file starting with BEGIN:VCALENDAR.
Wait up to 5 minutes for the first fetch. Also keep in mind that only today’s events that have not ended yet are shown.
If the calendar becomes unreachable later – for example because publishing was revoked in Microsoft 365 or the secret address was reset in Google – the display keeps showing the last events it fetched, without an error message. Enter the new link in Doorzign in that case.
Check the Timezone in the display’s iCal Connect settings and set it explicitly if necessary.
If you choose a different template on Button 1 or disable the button, the calendar connection is removed. Simply set it up again.
